MennoCon19 is going to be an exciting combination of faith formation, equipping times and fun with friends! Some elements will feel familiar to those that have attended conventions in the past. Other elements will provide new opportunities for everyone.
Worship services will be a time of coming together to worship God. We will combine youth and adults for worship this convention. Morning services will last one hour, while evening services will last 90 minutes. Music will fill the space with thousands singing together. Speakers will bring the scripture alive in new and exciting ways.
New Equipping sessions offer a unique spin on seminars. We are designing these to equip our participants with “something to take home” like knowledge, skills, certifications and valuable resources that are useful in personal, congregational and conference settings. We are also increasing the time for these sessions to 90 minutes to allow for deeper engagement.
New Community Groups will provide time for peers and affinity groups to gather together (examples include youth, young adults, women in leadership, youth pastors, conference leaders, etc.). Youth community groups will gather for a time of input and then split into individual youth groups for continued conversation. Adult community groups will gather with others of similar interest. A leader will get the conversations started, and groups can take the conversation wherever they choose.
On Thursday evening, July 4, we will have limited programming. This is a chance for convention participants to get out and experience Kansas City. Some might choose to go to Top Golf or take in a Kansas City Royals baseball game (if they’ll be home that evening). Some might choose to gather friends or family for dinner at one of the downtown restaurants. Some might choose to enjoy a quiet evening in the hotel.
